Shipping Container Prices in Dubai: 20ft, 40ft, High Cube and Reefer Cost Guide

Buying a shipping container in Dubai is straightforward once you know what a fair price looks like. The problem is that most suppliers quote only on request, so buyers have no reference point when the numbers come back.

Shipping container prices in Dubai currently range from AED 4,500 for a used 20ft standard container to AED 65,000 for a new 20ft reefer. Size, condition grade, and container type explain almost all of that spread.

Note: Prices below are indicative UAE market ranges for 2026 based on publicly listed supplier rates. The exact price of a specific unit depends on its age, grade, and availability on the day. Request a quote for live pricing on current stock.

20ft Container Price in Dubai

The 20ft standard is the entry point of the market. A used, cargo-worthy 20ft container costs AED 4,500 to 7,500 in Dubai, while a one-trip (near-new) unit costs AED 9,000 to 12,000.

Used 20ft units are the default choice for site storage, warehouse overflow, and conversion projects where the steel will be cut and refitted anyway. One-trip units make sense when appearance matters, for example retail conversions and offices the public will see up close. Per square metre, the 20ft is not the cheapest way to buy space, but it is the easiest to place, move, and resell. See the full range of containers available for current sizes and types.

40ft Container Price in Dubai

A used 40ft standard container costs AED 8,000 to 13,000, and a one-trip unit costs AED 13,000 to 17,000. That is roughly double the floor space of a 20ft for well under double the price, which is why warehouses, logistics firms, and manufacturers default to 40ft units for static storage.

The 40ft high cube adds about 30 cm of interior height and costs AED 9,000 to 14,000 used and AED 14,000 to 18,000 one-trip, suiting racking, tall machinery, and conversions where ceiling height matters. The 45ft high cube runs AED 12,000 to 17,000 used and AED 17,000 to 22,000 new.

One caution: the cheapest 40ft units are often retired fleet stock with heavy corrosion or floor damage. A mid-range cargo-worthy unit is usually the better buy.

Reefer Container Prices in Dubai

Refrigerated containers are priced differently because you are buying machinery as much as steel. A used 20ft reefer costs AED 18,000 to 28,000, while a new unit costs AED 45,000 to 65,000 depending on the refrigeration brand and specification.

The gap between used and new is wider than for dry containers because the cooling unit's age, running hours, and service history drive the value. A used reefer with a well-maintained Carrier or Thermo King machine is a sound buy for food storage and pharmaceutical overflow. Before buying any used reefer, ask for the machine's pre-trip inspection (PTI) status and a temperature run test. Our 20ft reefer container page lists the temperature ranges and machinery options we supply.

Open Top and Flat Rack Container Prices

Specialty equipment is thinner on the ground in the UAE, so pricing is less standardized. Used 20ft open top and flat rack containers typically cost AED 7,000 to 12,000, with new units priced on request because they are usually ordered in for a specific project.

These units serve machinery, generators, and oversized cargo that cannot load through standard doors. If your cargo is over-height or crane-loaded, budget at the top of the used range for a unit with a sound tarpaulin (open top) or undamaged end walls and lashing points (flat rack).

What Affects Shipping Container Prices in Dubai?

1. Condition Grade

The single biggest factor. Units are graded one-trip (near new), cargo-worthy (certified fit for shipping), or wind and watertight (storage grade, no shipping certification). Each step down takes a clear slice off the price.

2. Age and Shipping Line History

A 10-year-old unit from a premium line usually outlasts a 14-year-old unit from heavy bulk service. The year of manufacture is stamped on the CSC plate, so check the plate instead of relying on a verbal age.

3. Type and Specification

Reefers cost multiples of dry units, high cubes carry a premium over standard height, and modified units (extra doors, side openings, insulation) are priced unit by unit.

4. Supply at the Port

Dubai prices follow container flows through Jebel Ali. When export demand is high, used stock tightens and prices firm up within weeks, which is why quotes are typically valid for days, not months.

5. Delivery Emirate and Site Access

The container price is only part of the landed cost. Delivery within Dubai or Sharjah is the cheapest case; Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah add distance, and sites needing a crane offload add handling cost. Always ask for the delivered price, not the depot price.

6. Quantity

Buyers purchasing five or more units negotiate fleet pricing that a single-unit buyer cannot access. If your project will grow, phasing purchases under one agreement protects the unit rate.

Used vs One-Trip: Which Should You Buy?

Buy used (cargo-worthy) if: the container is for storage, site use, or export shipping, and cosmetic condition does not matter. This is where the value sits for most commercial buyers.

Buy one-trip if: the unit will be converted into an office, cafe, or retail space, placed somewhere visible, or kept for a decade or more. The cleaner steel, sound floor, and easy-opening doors justify the premium.

Avoid the cheapest grade if: the container will ship cargo internationally. A unit without a valid CSC plate cannot legally load for sea transport, whatever the seller promises. Our guide to used shipping containers for sale in Dubai walks through the inspection checks in detail.

Should You Buy or Rent?

A used 20ft container bought for around AED 6,000 equals roughly a year to eighteen months of rental payments, and the asset stays yours with a resale value at the end. Buying wins for any need beyond about 18 months and for conversion projects. Renting still wins for short projects, seasonal overflow, and situations where the specification may change. Our container rental prices guide breaks down monthly rates by type if you are comparing the two routes.

How to Get an Exact Container Price in Dubai

Prices move with stock, so the only number that matters is a quote against a specific unit. Before paying, get four things in writing: the unit number, recent photos of all sides plus the interior floor, CSC plate validity if you plan to ship, and a delivered price including offloading.

Momentum Containers supplies new and used containers across the UAE from our Sharjah Inland Container Depot stock, with every unit inspected before dispatch. Request a quote with your size, grade, and delivery location, and we will price the units that match, with photos, before you commit to anything.
