Paddle Tennis Court
Circle Mall, Dubai

Circle Mall in Jumeirah Village Circle sits between Al Khail Road (E44) and Hessa Street — one of Dubai's most active community districts with over 95,000 residents. The mall's rooftop needed a padel tennis court that would pull residents up from street level.

A conventional steel frame structure was too heavy for the existing rooftop slab. We built the court platform from high-cube containers — lighter than a standard steel frame of the same footprint, and structurally signed off by the mall's engineers before a single container went on the roof.

A Rooftop Padel Court Built on Containers
Circle Mall, JVC

Padel tennis is the fastest-growing racket sport in the UAE. Dubai's JVC district alone has a player base large enough to keep two courts fully booked on weekday evenings. Circle Mall by Nakheel wanted to add the sport to its rooftop community club, alongside the existing pool and fitness facilities, but the rooftop slab could not carry a conventional steel or concrete sports structure.

High-cube containers offer a structural answer to weight-restricted rooftop builds. The steel frame of a high-cube container distributes load through four corner castings not across a flat base, which is how rooftop structural engineers prefer to see concentrated loads managed on an existing slab.

We fabricated the container platform at our SICD yard in Sharjah, transported the units to Circle Mall off Al Khail Road in Al Quoz, and installed the full court structure including the playing surface, perimeter fencing, floodlights, and access staircase. The court was handed over to the mall's operations team ready for play.

Container Platform Lighter
Than Conventional Steel

The playing surface platform sits on high-cube ISO containers positioned side by side. The container tops form the structural floor deck. High-cube containers stand 2.9 metres tall 300mm taller than a standard container, which gives enough clearance beneath the deck for the access staircase and building services without a secondary structure. The platform load transfers through the corner castings directly to the rooftop slab bearing points.

Professional Sports Surface Artificial Turf Over Shock Pad

The playing surface is professional-grade artificial turf bonded to a 10mm rubber shock pad. The shock pad absorbs impact, it protects both the players' joints and the container deck below. Turf colour is standard padel green. Line markings are inlaid at manufacture, not painted, so they do not fade or peel under Dubai's UV exposure and summer heat. The surface meets standard padel court dimensions of 20 metres by 10 metres.

LED Floodlights
300 Lux for Evening Play

Four galvanised steel poles mount at the court corners. Each pole carries LED floodlight clusters sized to deliver a minimum 300-lux illuminance across the full playing surface. That meets the standard for recreational padel as referenced in the UAE Lighting Guide for outdoor sports facilities. JVC residents use the court through the evening, the lighting allows comfortable play until 11pm without glare spill onto adjacent mall areas.

Who Orders a Container Sports Structure in the UAE

The Circle Mall padel court is one type of container sports structure. Retail centres, hotel rooftop clubs, and community developers across Dubai and Abu Dhabi are adding sports and leisure facilities to weight-restricted rooftops and outdoor areas where a permanent structure is not possible. Containers are the practical answer.

Hotel Rooftop Clubs
DIFC, JBR, and Business Bay

Hotel operators in Dubai's hospitality belt DIFC, Jumeirah Beach Residence, and Business Bay along Sheikh Zayed Road are adding padel courts, small-sided football pitches, and recreational areas to rooftop levels as guest amenities. Container structures are lighter, faster to install, and easier to remove at lease end than conventional rooftop builds. We design, fabricate, and install from our Sharjah yard to any Dubai rooftop site.

Community Malls JVC, Dubai South, and Al Barsha

Community malls in Dubai's growing residential corridors JVC, Dubai South near Al Maktoum International Airport, Town Square off Emirates Road (E311), and Al Barsha near Mall of the Emirates are adding rooftop sports facilities to compete with larger destination malls. Container structures go up without heavy civil works, do not require municipality building permit timelines that apply to permanent structures, and can be repositioned if the rooftop layout changes.

Outdoor Pop-Up Sports Venues
Kite Beach and City Walk

Sports event organizers and brand activation companies running temporary padel tournaments and outdoor fitness events at Kite Beach, City Walk, and La Mer on Jumeirah Beach Road use container structures as temporary court platforms and spectator areas. The units arrive on flatbed trucks, go into position, and the court is playable the same day. At event end, they load back on trucks without leaving any permanent mark on the site.
